My name is Lucy, and I am currently in my first year studying a BA (Hons) Business Management with Marketing degree at Pearson College London. Due to the Pandemic, I have spent most of my studies this year online, but that has not hindered my experience so far at Pearson College London.
What is my goal?
After completing my degree, I want to go into the marketing industry, specifically events management and digital marketing. Organising corporate events and creating effective marketing campaigns is something that has always interested me.
How is Pearson College London helping me achieve my goals?
Studying at Pearson College London gives you more than just a degree. Every week there are different activities to get involved with, alongside studying, which puts you one step ahead of the competition. So far on my university journey I have had so many experiences that have given me tips to get into the marketing industry as well as countless connections that are growing my network. Additionally, we are taught by tutors who have had real life experience in the business world which enhances your studies even further.
So, what have I done so far?
- I attended the ‘Marketing Mastery Work Fitness Workshop’ featuring 6 marketing insiders from various marketing careers who gave us some great hints and tips on how to get into the marketing industry and stay ahead of the competition. This workshop was very insightful, and an hour well spent! It allowed me to work out what it takes to get into the industry and made me question what side of the marketing world I really wanted to get in to!
- Landing the role of Event Manager for TEDxPCL! After attending last years’ event and wanting to be part of such an amazing event myself, I went for an interview to be on this years’ TEDxPCL team. Since getting the role, I have grown my experience of working in a team with the added challenge of working completely online! As with organising any event, there have been ups and downs, but it has taught me so much more about the industry which will hopefully benefit me in the future.
- I also attended the ‘Events Management Workshop’ run by Shirry Liram who has 20 years’ experience in the events industry. Throughout the workshop Shirry shared her secrets on the key ingredients of setting up an event and making it a success. This was one of my favourite workshops I have attended so far! It showed me how to adapt what I have already learnt to make sure I have the skills to organise events in the current climate and adapt for the changing world of events.
What is the 5-year goal?
In 5 years’ time I would like to be working in the event industry with big name companies organising their corporate events, having finished my degree with Pearson College London. I am hoping that, with the industry connections I have and continue to build, I will be able to achieve my dream career.
