Game Art is all about allowing students to understand the development assets for use in video games. This course is heavily reliant on 3D software and techniques for modelling, texturing and lighting for modern game engines.


Your portfolio is a crucial part of your application and we encourage you to put your best efforts into it. It will be showcased at your Creative Workshop and should cover a range of skills and processes.

Things you Might want to Consider in your Portfolio

  • Drawing Skills - we recommend that you use a range of drawings and styles. They can range from life drawing, concept work or observational drawings that demonstrate your eye for detail.

  • Sketchbooks - these will give us an insight into your idea creation and how you follow the process to a final piece. If you completed GCSE or A-Level Art, you can take inspiration from this or use some pieces from these if you like them.

  • 3D Work - the Game Art course is 3D so it is useful if you have a basic understanding of some software we use, for example, 'Unreal Engine'. Why not check out some video tutorials online?

  • Showreel - some more detailed information about showreels can be found here and we advise that it is no longer than a couple of minutes.
