Wellbeing Day at Pearson College London

As part of both our Work Fitness Week and Mental Health Awareness Day, we ran a Wellbeing Day at Pearson College London. This compiled free healthy snacks and drinks with a series of workshops centred around wellbeing.

Here are three examples of the varied sessions that were running as part of the day...

1. Barclays Life Skills Workshop

The Life Skills workshop run by Barclays Bank focused on financial wellbeing and how to look at your money. Some of the things that they covered were:

  • mortgages
  • savings
  • Help-to-Buy Schemes
  • ISAs

They also told students about the 50/30/20 rule: 50% of your monthly salary goes on needs, 30% on wants, and 20% into savings.

This was run by a Branch Manager and a Financial Coach who showed videos and answered questions about credit scores and mortgages too!

2. PureGym - HIIT & ABS

PureGym also came into Pearson College to deliver a session based around physical wellbeing. They focused on High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Abdominals (Abs).

HIIT is a form of interval training, which alternates short periods of intense exercise with periods of recovery. It has become a popular training method with people who want to get fit and fast.

People who train using the HIIT method often see results in a very short period of time.

"Your core muscles have a huge impact on your balance and stability, by building strength here you will be creating an even balance throughout your body. When you have a weak core, strength from other muscles gets used instead to compensate, which in turn could lead to injury. By choosing the correct core exercises you will not only be blasting those abs but also strengthening and engaging your pelvis, lower back and hips." - Claudia Dawe, Personal Trainer, PureGym

3. Mindfulness session

The mindfulness session was a workshop held by Ashley Lodge, Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead for Pearson, was also delivered on Thursday! The workshop gave all attendees:

  • an overview of how Mindfulness works
  • an insight into the psychology and neuroscience underpinning Mindfulness
  • the opportunity to participate in a meditation session
  • the opportunity to discuss the meditation experience with the group

Becoming more aware of the present moment can help us enjoy the world around us more and understand ourselves better. When we become more aware of the present moment, we begin to experience afresh things that we have been taking for granted (NHS).
