As part of my Rotational Degree Apprenticeship, I completed an 8 month placement at Pearson College London working in the Business-to-Business and Strategic Projects team.
During my placement at Pearson College London, I have taken on many projects with my responsibilities growing as my time here has progressed. No two weeks at Pearson were ever the same which made me excited about coming to work. I have been involved in the creation of five brochures; arranged and managed an industry photoshoot; worked on newspaper advertorials; carried out in depth competitor research; supported in organising and running a Centre for Industry Engagement event; and finally project-managed a website overhaul - all in just 8 months! All these projects ensured I gained new knowledge and skills.
I have also volunteered to sit on a UCAS panel in front of students and teachers and worked at the Apprentice18 Stationer’s Event, speaking to prospective students about future career options. Additionally I have written blogs (like this one!) and filmed student takeover videos for Pearson College London’s social media channels. All these experiences have given me the opportunity to share my apprenticeship journey and promote the benefits of degree apprenticeships to future students.
Whilst I have loved all the work I have got involved in, my favourite thing about my placement at Pearson was the amazing people I have had the fortune to work with. Contradicting to my two previous placements at Tesco and IBM, Pearson College London is much smaller, meaning everyone knows everyone, embedding a genuine team ethos throughout the whole college. I was made to feel so welcome from day one, everyone was so approachable, helpful and knowledgeable and the lively atmosphere around the college made me look forward to coming to work every day.
As I reflect upon the last eight months, my highlights include being nominated for CMI Apprentice of the Year and also having the opportunity to, for the first time in my career, work alongside other degree apprentices who made me laugh every single day and have become friends for life.
I have absolutely loved my time at Pearson College London and would like to thank my manager, mentor, colleagues and friends for making it such a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
